SPRINGHOUSE CARTRIDGE DESCRIPTIONS

By-Pass Valve

Allows bypass of water for servicing and large use of water that does not need purification such as pool filling and lawn watering.

1) 20-Micron Filter (Passive Filtration)

Prepares water for down stream devices by reducing large SEDIMENT, SAND, and various PARTICLES.

The filter is reusable and can be removed, rinsed clean or placed in a dishwasher.

2) MAZ Manganese Treated Sodium Aluminosilicate Filter (Oxidation w/Passive Filtration)
Designed to remove extremely high levels of IRON, MANGANESE, and Hydrogen Sulphide. Removes particles and materials down to 10 microns in size.

Replaceable cartridge lasts approximately one year.

3) KDF Filter (Oxidation, Ionization through Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP))

Dissimilar metals, (high purity copper and zinc) cause changes in a multitude of chemicals such as CHLORINE, ARSENIC, COBALT, ANTIMONY, COPPER, MERCURY, ASBESTOS, CADMIUM, CHLOROFORM, CHROMIUM, HYDROGEN SULPHIDE, LEAD, LINDANE, MALETHION, and other PESTICIDES, SILVER, TRICHLORETHANE and many others. It also kills MICROORGANISMS and BACTERIA such as COLIFORM and SALMONELLA by creating hydroxyl radicals and interfering with electron transport mechanisms. KDF technology also changes the physical shape of hardness causing minerals to change from crystals to rods which REDUCES FORMATION and ACCUMULATION OF SCALE in pipes and on metallic surfaces.

Expected longevity is well over one year.

4) Alpine UV System (High Intensity Ultraviolet Light)

Over 30,000 microwatt seconds per square centimeter of disinfecting ultraviolet light to kill microorganisms such as E-COLI, LEGIONELLA, SHIGELLA DYSENTERIAE, CHOLERAE, YERSINIA ENTEROCOLITICA, SALMONELLA, POLIO VIRUS TYPE 1, HEPATITIS A VIRUS, SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISAE, ROTO VIRUS, ETC. The unit operates on 110V ac outlet and has Opaque light verification port installed.

The UV bulb operates full time and should be replaced annually.

5) GAC Granular Activated Carbon Filter (Absorption and Passive Filtration)

1,2-dichloropropane, 1,1-dichloroethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, 1,1,2-trichloroethane, 1,2-dichlorobenzene, 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene, 4-D 2,4,5-TP (silvex), alachlor, atrazine, benzene, carbofuran, carbon tetrachloride, chlorobenzene, cis-1, 2-dichloroethylene, cis-1, 3-dichloropropylene, dibromochloropropane (DBCP), dinoseb 170, endrin ethylbenzene, ethylene dibromide (EDB), heptachlor epoxide, heptachlor, hexachlorobutadiene, hexachlorocyclopentadiene, lindane 55, methoxychlor, o-dichlorobenzene, p-dichlorobenzene, pentachlorophenol simazine, styrene, tetrachloroethane, tetrachloroethylene, toluene, trans-1, 2-dichloroethylene, trichloroctylene, and trihalomethanes (which includes): chloroform (surrogate chemical), bromoform, bromodichloromethane, chlorodibromomethane, xylenes (total), chlorine.

This carbon filter is designed for annual replacement.

6) Sequestering Agent (Antiscalent)

Polyphosphate crystals slowly dissolve in the effluent water and envelope the major components that comprise scale buildup in pipes, coffee machines, shower partitions, fixtures, tile walls, etc. causing the water to feel soft and reduce deposition on materials. Hair and skin feel cleaner also.

The sequestering agent must be replaced every 6 months.

7) 1-Micron Filter (Passive Filter)

Pleated 1-micron filter will remove microorganisms such as GIARDIA, CRYPTOSPORIDIUM, PARASITIC CYSTS, AMOEBA, and EXTREMELY SMALL PARTICLES.

The one-micron filter should be replaced annually.

Living Water Test Information Supplement

The standards most widely used to determine contaminate reduction in water are the ANSI/NSF standards 42, 53, and 55.  These tests use representative test contaminant groups.  Successful removal of the representative contaminant together with other test data (as indicated below) provide a high degree of certainty that the unit will significantly reduce the following contaminants:

Microbiological Reduction:

The NSF Standard 55, Class B test requirements were far exceeded by the unit.  Other tests performed at the University of Arizona and Colorado State University (as noted) can be used to infer that the unit will also significantly reduce the following:

Kiebsiella Terrigena (internal organ infections)

E-Coli (multiple diseases and infections) 2,4

MS-2 Virus (test surrogate) 3

Campylobacter jejuni (travelers disease) 4

Vibrio Cholerea (human cholera) 4

Poliovirus type 1

Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast)

Aermonas Hydrophillia (meningitis)

Bacillus Subtillis (wound infections)

Yersinia enterocolitica (meningitis and polyyarthritis)

Shigella dysenteriae (dysentery)

Hemophilus Influenzae (upper respiratory infections) 4

Colorado State University per EPA protocol – Greater than 99.99% reduction

University of Arizona per EPA protocol – Greater than 99.99% reduction

University of Arizona per EPA protocol – Greater than 98.97% reduction

University of Cost Rica per UCR protocol – Greater than 99.99% reduction

Trichlorethylene (TCE)

Tetrachlorethylene (PCE)

Ethylene dibrominde (EDB)

Dibromochloropropane (DBCP)

The information in this page does not constitute NSF approval for reduction of the listed contaminants. (In some instances, no specific NSF test exists.)  It is provided solely for information purposes.  For contaminant reduction claims per NSF protocol, refer to the performance data sheet.
